The Aztecs were the people who lived on agriculture. They usually farmed to get most of their food. "Experts estimate that as much as 20 percent of the Aztec population was involved directly with farming and agriculture". The Aztec people mainly grew corn or maize, and also others such as: sweet potatoes, squash, beans, and chilis. The agriculture played a big role in economy because it was the main food. The merchants sold these products in the markets. The Aztecs not just bought crops, but used crops as money. The Aztec people used the cacao beans as money. They did not yet have a real money, but traded these beans to buy or get what they wanted.
